Toyko Marui surprised everyone in late 2004 when they first produced their fixed slide Glock 18c electric pistol. Before this time electric pistols had been very low powered and unsuitable for serious skirmishing, only Electric Blow Back (EBB) pistols existed. The Glock 18c AEP was a lot more powerful and of a much better build quality.

The Tokyo Marui Glock 18c

This is the first AEPs to be produced and is an excellent little gun.

The workings of the pistol are effectively a miniaturised full-sized AEG. The gear box has been shrunk to a size suitable for hiding inside the pistol and this is run by a motor in the grip. The batteries are pretty low powered, but just enough to keep the gun working through several magazines. These are in the form of small metal sticks containing 30 rounds which slid into the grip next to the motor.

The power of the gun is low in comparison with most gas pistols or AEGs but the hop-up is sufficiently good to make up for this. Typically 220fps can be reached with a 0.2g bb.

Accessories for the gun include an underbarrel mounted torch which doubles as a larger battery, hicaps, silencer adapters, sight rails, alternate slides, lanyard rings, etc.

Recently cheap Chinese copies of this gun have become available and from reports they appear to be nearly as good as the original.

Other AEPs

Since the Glock 18C appeared quite a few other AEPs have appeared. The first of these was the M93R.

Also there have been slightly larger guns running with the AEP style miniaturised gearboxes. For instance the MP7.

Tokyo Mauri have already got planned other AEP models, among them are the Heckler and Koch USP and the Czech vz.61 Skorpion
