Automatic Electric Gun
AEG's are the most commonly used airsoft gun by most players. AEG'S are the bulk of the rifles and submachine guns used by the majority of airsofters as their primary weapons, and are modelled after popular real world weapons, such as M-16's, AK-47's, the SA-80, MP-5 and other well known weapons.
Recently there have also been new introductions by Tokyo Marui of smaller AEG's, such as the H&K MP7, which is a a much smaller sub-machinegun, and is touted to be the first of a new line.
Characteristics
- AEG's are capable of semi-automatic and fully automatic firing modes, and some of the newest ones can also fire in a 3-round burst. While attempted before, this has only been achieved successfully recently.
- AEG's feed from a detachable magazine as their real world (or 'real steel') counterparts would. Magazines of varying capacities are available, from 'real-cap' 30 round magazines, lo-cap magazines holding approx. 50-60 rounds, mid-cap magazines of around 80-100 rounds, to hi-cap 200+ round magazines. Some AEG's can also be loaded with optional 'C' or 'Beta' magazines and box magazines of ultra-high capacities of many thousands of rounds.
- AEG's are powered by an internal replaceable battery that are similar to those used in a radio controlled car and depending on the internal upgrades to the weapon, may last an entire day, or merely for a few games.
- AEG's can be upgraded internally to increase characteristics such as rate of fire, range, muzzle velocity, accuracy, and many other characteristics. Externally, they can be fitted with a wide variety of accessories such as light, lasers, scopes, grenade launchers, and a wide variety of other optional accessories. Due to the exact nature of these replicas, often the real world accessories fit too.
Manufacturers
There are an increasing number of AEG manufacturers, and their reliability and quality is widely contested and debated throughout the airsoft community. The variety of weapons manufactured and produced by each is not that great, and the upgrade potential is equal across the board, as many parts are interchangable. See also manufacturers
