Owned

The expression (also, for some unknown reason, reffered to as "pwned"?)widely accepted for describing the total anhialation of the opposition in a way that they show no sign of standing even the slightest chance. If you overrun an enemy position, it is likely that you "owned" them. If you defend a position without taking hits, it is again likely that you "owned" the enemy. In any one sided situation, the phrase "owned" can (usually) be applied.

I was the first person to describe the term "owned", therefore i "owned" you:P (see what i did there?!:D)

Pwn

The term pwn'/'pwned'/'pwnt has become popular.(though sometimes still pronounced own'/'owned) Its origins are debated - most likely the result of a typing error with 'P' and 'O' next to each other (which subsequently spread as a meme). Other theories include it being short for 'power-owned' or 'a level above own' (pwn=own++)

Perhaps the reason that this mis-spelling persists is as follows: Giving this slang useage of the word 'own' a new spelling helps avoid confusion. If one means to indicate rightfull possession of property or goods then one uses the traditional spelling own; if one means to dominate or defeat, one uses the alternate spelling pwn. This distinction clears up any confusion.
